Our engineering department is a core part of ATD, supporting the early decision-making that shapes each project before it moves to prototyping and manufacture. We provide specialist design services to quickly develop concept or production-ready components. 
 
By combining three key capabilities - design and engineering, CAD and CAE and Validation and Testing, we create detailed parts, assemblies and systems that meet the technical and functional requirements of the customer's application. 

Design and Engineering

At ATD, our engineers bring specialist knowledge to every project developing fully engineered solutions that meet technical requirements. With extensive experience turning early concepts into production-ready parts, the engineering team helps OEMs move new ideas quickly into functional prototypes and series production.

From our offices in the Midlands, we offer flexible collaboration options so engineering and project teams can work together where and when it suits them. 

Design and Development Support

We can work with you at any stage of the design and development process. We can support with the creation of early concepts and feasibility assessments and provide detailed engineering drawing reviews. We can do vehicle evaluations to assess package space and gather in-situ information. 

CAD and CAE Capability

Using CAD and CAE tools, ATD can quickly create and refine part models for series production. ATD's understanding of CAD processes allows complex technical requirements to be integrated into detailed virtual models, enabling analysis of key characteristics before any physical prototype work begins. 

This is further strengthened through CAE methods such as FEA and Moldflow analysis, helping the engineering team develop accurate, production-ready solutions efficiently. 

We are licensed users of Catia V5 and Solidworks as well as other supporting platforms. 

Testing and Validation

ATD carries out a range of solution-focused test procedures on new and existing parts to ensure they meet all required performance, quality and functional standards. 

To confirm that each part is reliable and fit for purpose, our engineering specialists use a variety of testing methods. These include supporting trial builds, conducting fit-for-function assessments, and working closely with colleagues in Prototyping and Quality to review fitment and dimensional data. 

This combined approach allows ATD to support projects through every stage of development, right up to final manufacture.
